Japan is having the week off

Just a kind reminder for those who are not much aware of WTF is going on right now in Japan… Since April 29 until May 11 Japan is Golden Week… Actually the “Golden Week” is from the May 4 to 7… But MANY, and I say MANY, companies choose to be off until May 11… So don’t expect much from US, we will continue to post news as much as we can but it may be proven difficult to talk about the latest Japanese goodies when most of the Japanese companies are off…

Anyway don’t worry we have some stuff ready for you ! Meanwhile I decided to clean my office space at home… You cannot imagine how much crap a Geek can keep in 8 years…

Tissue Box - Hidden Video Camcorder

You have just eaten a bacon roll, you feel a sniffle or even the flu coming on, you need a tissue now.  All this is captured with a perfectly normal looking tissue box which secretly holds a low light CCTV camera and a digital video recorder. There is no pinhole lens used in this item - the camera actually films through the tissue box.

This package offers very low light recording, motion detection and pre-scheduled recording, superb colour picture and sound and a long lasting (6 hour) re-chargeable battery. All recordings are time and date stamped.

Deposit Paper Checks via Mobile Phone?

Mitek Systems has actually developed software that lets you deposit paper checks by taking their picture with your mobile phone and transmitting the images to your bank. The company has a good demo of the service on the product page.

The company first demo’d it to bankers at BAI’s Transpay in early February (press release here). I wasn’t there but I heard it was a must-see on the trade show floor. Read the rest of this entry »

Cheeseburger in a Can

Cheeseburger in a can

Not sure how I feel about this: is it the greatest achievement of mankind thus far, or is it an abomination of foodstuffs that deserves to be hucked back into the gaping maw of whatever food processing plant it was spewed from? I just don’t know what to think anymore. Would you eat a cheeseburger in a can? Keep in mind that it’ll look nowhere near as delicious as the example above when you pull it out of the can. Furniture revolution on facebook

It’s pretty normal these days to keep a blog or Twitter account. Some people even set up social networking accounts for their infant children, or even their pets. One intrepid person has pushed the envelope, however, into a realm heretofore unimagined: she’s got a bed with its own not-inconsiderable fanbase on Facebook.

The custom hamburger (or, cheeseburger, as it maybe should be) bed resides at Kayla Kromer’s house in Texas, and looks pretty comfy, but should it have a Facebook page of its own? The question isn’t answered, so perhaps what we should really be asking is: why shouldn’t the hamburger bed have its own digital footprint?

I admit, the hamburger bed is a clever (and squishy) concept, and it would certainly be a conversation starter. But 3,000 fans on Facebook… clearly, that’s some sort of sinister plot to take over the world (or at least the Internet).

I, for one, welcome our new geek furniture overlords.

Zoho Mail Launches with Offline Support

Over the past three years, we launched several new applications in Zoho, but one particular application has been in the background silently making progress during its private-beta stage - Zoho Mail.

Today, Zoho Mail is stepping out of private-beta. This is an important milestone for Zoho as Zoho Mail plays a pivotal role in our suite’s evolution. There is lot to talk about, so let us drill down into details.

\With or without\

Features

Instead of talking about all the features in Zoho Mail, I’ll share the approach we have taken in Zoho Mail and let you explore all the features.

Zoho Mail supports folders (including hierarchical folders) - the ones you are used to. But then, we also see the value of having Labels in your mail client. So we added labels support too. We don’t want to decide what you should use. We want to give you the choice. So we added support for both Folders and Labels.

Along the same lines, we noticed that some users prefer seeing a list of their emails serially (Ex: the Outlook style) and some users prefer viewing the emails as conversations (Ex: Gmail style). Again, we don’t want to decide what you have to use. So we support both. In conversations, responses are listed hierarchically so that you can look at a conversation and visually see who responded to whom. Read the rest of this entry »

Google Cuts Personal Data Retention Time in Half, Still Knows Everything About You

Google has just made a change to its privacy policy, cutting the retention time for your personal data from 18 months to 9 months. This means that now Google will only be able to build a frighteningly accurate portrait of you that advertisers will salivate over based on your searches, keywords found in your Gmail, videos viewed on YouTube, feeds subscribed to in Google Reader and surf history in Chrome based on a mere 9 months of information. All together now: thank you, Google overlords, for your benevolence!

iPod Touch V 2 Review

The second iteration of the iPod touch equals or improves upon its predecessor in almost every physical facet. Slimmer, lighter and more functional, the v.2 also gets new volume control buttons, full Nike+ integration and a built-in loudspeaker. It’s not a radical change, but it’s better.
